Capsule Geology

The Draw occurrence is located on Draw Mountain, approximately 4.3 kilometres east of Kennedy Lake and 18 kilometres northeast of Ucluelet, B.C.

The area is underlain by Karmutsen Formation basalts and andesites, and Quatsino Formation limestone, both of the Upper Triassic Vancouver Group. These in turn are overlain by Lower Jurassic Bonanza Group flows, tuffs and breccias ranging from basalt to rhyodacite in composition. Stocks of quartz diorite and grano- diorite of the Jurassic Island Plutonic Suite intrude the strata. The youngest rocks in the area are Tertiary volcanics consisting of welded tuffs, breccias, basaltic tuffs and rhyodacites. Coeval Tertiary intrusions of quartz diorite to quartz monzonite occur and may be linked to the Eocene. Rocks of the pre-Jurassic Westcoast Complex occur in the region. They are genetically related to the Jurassic Island Plutonic Suite and considered to be derived from Sicker and Vancouver groups rocks.

Locally, pyrite and chalcopyrite with minor sphalerite, along with manganese, epidote and chlorite, occur in a biotite granodiorite of the Early to Middle Eocene Tofino Intrusive Suite (previously Catface Intrusions) over a length of at least 1.6 kilometres. The intrusive has undergone intense hydrothermal alteration consisting of silica, sericite and pyrophyllite. A grab sample of mineralized material returned 2.6 per cent copper (Walker, R.R. (1997-04-07): Summary Report and 1997 Recommended Exploration Program on the Lucky Property)

During 1995 through 2009, Consolidated Logan Mines Limited and later Logan Resources Limited, completed programs of prospecting, geological mapping, geochemical sampling and an induced polarization survey on the Lucky and Redford properties.

In 2011, Logan Resources Ltd. and joint venture partner Ridgemont Iron Ore Corp. conducted ground geophysics (including Draw) and drilling over the Redford property. The 2011 Ridgemont diamond drill program, east of Draw Creek and the Brynnor Pit, consisted of 61 holes totalling 10, 234.58 metres utilizing 29 drill pads. The program coverage was categorized into three zones: the Main, East and North zones. The drill results from the East zone confirmed that magnetite mineralization was similar in strike and dip to that found in the Main zone.
